Culligan with ZeroWater Technology

PFAS in your water is invisible. Your filter should not be.

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are found in drinking water across the United States. Culligan water filters are independently certified by IAPMO to reduce total PFAS.

What are PFAS?

PFAS are a group of man-made chemicals used in everything from non-stick cookware to firefighting foam. You may know them less formally as “forever chemicals,” a nickname coined because they don’t break down easily in the environment—or in your body. These chemicals can enter drinking water through industrial sites, landfills, and even household products.

Why do PFAS matter?

PFAS have been linked to serious health risks, including developmental issues in children, immune system issues, and increased cancer risk.

Culligan with ZeroWater Technology is the only pitcher filter certified to filter 99% of total PFAS (forever chemicals) along with dozens more harmful contaminants.

PFAS FAQs

Brita's standard filter is not certified to reduce PFAS. Brita's Longlast+ filter carries some PFAS reduction certification, but it is certified to reduce fewer total contaminants than Culligan with ZeroWater Technology, which is certified to reduce 26 contaminants versus Brita Standard's 5.

Yes. Culligan with ZeroWater Technology pitchers and dispensers are independently certified by IAPMO to reduce Total PFAS by 99.7% under NSF/ANSI 53 standards. Total PFAS includes PFOA, PFOS, PFHxS, PFNA, PFHpA, PFBS, and PFDA.

The best water filter for PFAS reduction is one with independent third-party certification specifically for Total PFAS under NSF/ANSI 53. Culligan with ZeroWater Technology (pitcher) is certified to reduce Total PFAS by 99.7%. Culligan with MaxClear Technology (gravity water filter system) is certified to reduce Total PFAS by 99.6%. Both are certified by IAPMO.

Yes. Certified point-of-use water filters can significantly reduce PFAS in tap water without professional installation. Culligan with ZeroWater Technology and Culligan with MaxClear Technology are both independently certified for PFAS reduction and require no plumbing or installation.

Most standard refrigerator water filters are not certified to reduce PFAS. Certification for PFAS reduction under NSF/ANSI 53 requires specific filter media (such as ion exchange resin or certified carbon). If your refrigerator filter does not specifically list NSF/ANSI 53 PFAS certification, it should not be assumed to reduce PFAS. A dedicated certified pitcher or gravity filter is a more reliable option.

Berkey water filters are not independently certified by NSF/ANSI-accredited organizations for PFAS reduction. Culligan with MaxClear Technology gravity water filter systems are the only gravity filter independently certified by IAPMO to reduce Total PFAS, lead, and microplastics simultaneously under NSF/ANSI standards.

PFOA and PFOS are two specific per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. PFAS refers to the broader category of over 12,000 synthetic compounds in this chemical family. When a water filter is certified to reduce 'Total PFAS,' it covers a broader range of forever chemicals than a filter certified only for PFOA or PFOS individually.

Yes. The U.S. EPA finalized maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) for PFOA, PFOS, and four other PFAS compounds in April 2024. Public water systems must comply with these standards. However, compliance timelines vary, and private well owners are not covered. A certified home water filter provides an additional layer of protection regardless of local utility compliance status.
